Cartridge Flasher

The cartridge flasher will copy your game onto a real NES cartridge. This tutorial will explain how to install the flasher from Infinite NES Lives.

PS! This only applies to the INL Kazzo flasher.
The new official cartridge flasher is this one:
RetroStage RetroBlaster Cartridge Flasher

There is an official tutorial on how to install a cartridge flasher. It might be a good idea to check that one first.

Which Flasher Do You Have?

PS! If you have tried to install the flasher already and something went wrong, then unfortunately there may be a chance that this installation will fail. In order to correct that you can try to uninstall the driver in Microsoft Windows, and then try this tutorial.

1. Go to this folder (in your NESmaker install folder):

…\NESmaker_4_5_x\Flasher\INL_KazzoFlasherDriverPackage

2. Double click the file InstallDriver.exe (see picture above) to start the driver installation. Just follow the instructions and choose all default options. Once the installation is complete, click Finish to close the installer.

3. Connect the provided USB cable to your flasher and then connect it to the PC. You may see some Microsoft Windows notifications about new hardware. To double check that the driver was installed you can open Device Manager in Windows.

You should see libusb-win32 Usb Devices – INL Retro-Prog (see picture above).

4. To flash a cartridge, connect it to the flasher. Notice on the flasher where it says:

NES CARTRIDGE FRONT SIDE

To seat the cartridge the correct way on the flasher you must make sure that the side of the cartridge where the label usually is, is facing in the direction of the message (on the flasher).

5. Open NESmaker. Load the game you want to flash. Then click the Make Cart button. You should see the normal (black) DOS-window that appears when you run a game in NESmaker, followed by another DOS-window with information about the writing (flashing) process. You can see at the bottom when it’s done.

6. Test your game on a physical NES.
